Our Story

Church of the Lamb, an Anglican church in Penn Laird, VA, purchased a 31-acre property to serve as the home for its worship services, religious formation, and the embodiment of its mission “To abide in Christ: invited to rest, compelled to love.” To that end, it adopted the notion of an abbey as its model. It embraces orthodox Christian teachings, historic liturgical traditions and rituals, and a contemplative spirituality. Additionally, it sees the beautification of its property, the cultivation of crops and animals, and the operation of several businesses to be part and parcel of its mission and witness. Work on the Abbey is the primary means by which we extend hospitality to neighbors, care for the poor, evangelize, participate in the renewal of our neighborhood, and steward God’s good creation till it drips with beauty and delight. The Abbey’s businesses are the economic engine that underwrites our ministry and the vehicle to express a generous love to our neighbors.

In 2023, Church of the Lamb launched its first business—Abbey Coffee Roasters. All the labor of roasting, grinding, bagging, labeling, and delivering the coffee is done by the church's parishioners. All proceeds support the church’s missions of mercy, hospitality, and the ecological restoration and beautification of the Abbey to be a place of rest and refuge. We partner with local organizations to provide quality roasted coffee at discounted rates. We source our coffee beans from wholesalers, who themselves purchase coffee from Christians coffee growers and processors across the globe. Thus, we have control over the whole supply chain; every penny a customer pays for coffee ends up in the hands of Christian organizations or individuals, except for the propane it takes to roast the coffee. And we can do all of this while selling our coffee at a discount from local roasters.
